Default Lowering fxstc

I really like the look of a lowered bike and I am considering Lowering my Softail custom. My question is how will this affect the handling and the comfort of the ride? I would like to lower the bike to make it sit more level, Is there a prefered kit and what would be the Aprox. cost?

Talking fxstc lower

Lowered my 07 custom, I just used the replacement longer adjustable bolts. My bike is lowered 1.5 inches, and rides just fine, with no grounding out or rock hard rear end. Good value as these are inexpensive. Remove shox, compress in a hydraulic press remove circlip, split shock remove stock bolt and replace with longer new one, use loctite when refitting. Adjust height . Or if you have loads of money just replace with aftermarket items!

If you want I have a pair of HD low pro shocks that I have. They have the Arlen Ness lowering kit on it. There is nothing wrong with them. I replaced my shocks with a air suspension. PM or email me if your interested. I will email you pics. Lowered shocks rode good for me and they looked good lowered 1.5''. Definitely keeps your feet flat.

I lowered my Nightrain. https://www.hdforums.com/forum/softa...e-lowered.html The work is a piece of cake and I think the ride is a lot smoother than a rigid, and I'm still running 36# in the rear (on rigid we run a lot less). Using the studs is very cheap and easily reversible if you don't like it. There are also guys selling complete shocks on ebay for $115-125. If you don't have a press and don't feel comfortable disassembling the shocks without one, they are still a cheaper alternative than having a shop do the studs. Anyone with the most basic tools should be able to change out the shocks.

ya know I lowered my night train with the progressive 413's. same thing as the 422's, just the older version. rode a little stiffer, but in the looks department couldn't be beat. I love it!

Default Progressive

I lowered my bike initially 1" in the rear with the progressive lowering studs. Very easy install, and ride wasn't affected much. The following winter I installed the progressive 1" lowering springs in the front, and dropped the rear an additional 1/2". I also turned up the preload a bit on the rears at the same time. Ride is a little stiffer, but I'm only 21, so it doesn't bother me much. Never bottomed out, but I have scraped the frame and underside of the primary fairly hard on more then one occasion. Overall though, it is worth every penny. By going with the lowering studs, it cut down on the cost quite a bit. And this mod was 100% for looks, I had no problems touching the ground stock.
