Default Who owns a lowered Heritage?

My wife is going to trade for a Softail. She likes the way the Deluxe sits, but prefers the look of the Heritage.

How does lowering the Heritage effect the way it rides/handles, and can you advise the "best" way to lower it. I understand there are several different options for this.

Thanks from a new member!

My dad lowered my mom's heritage. I've ridden it plenty and it doesn't seem to effect the ride too much. I'm not really sure the steps that were taken to lower it but it has really helped her.

Mine is a 94. Its lowered enough to when I have my bags off I can get on it from the back, just walk right over the rear fender and sit, I'm 5'9". Mine is lowered with a kit (the eye bolts that just go into the shocks.) I think the ride is fine and handle perfect. Screaming around turns I can lean the bike while I am sitting upright like a dirt bike. I feel no difference in my dads stock 91 Heritage.

Had the wifes Heritage lowered at the dealership changing out the shock, it handles better and the wife has more control. I recommend it

No comment on me regarding air ride systems at all. I have my fatboy lowered but that is all I will say due to being banned over this subject recently. If you want to lower it with the bolts, they just make the travel of the rear shocks shorter, therefore lowering the rear of the bike a bit which is adjustable by the bolt itself that you add to the shock. There are also lowering shocks available on ebay for a lowe price. I have not tried either. There are numerous options to explore. Do a search on lowering softail suspension and you shouled come up with a ton of hits.

If your wife likes the way the deluxe sits then you can just have the stealer swap out the shocks on the heritage with the shocks from the deluxe. They will lower the rear an inch. They are called the Low profile shocks. I have the low profiles on my Heritage. I ride two up yet so these have proven and handling wasn't compromised.

My Heritage is lowered 2" front and back. I lowered the front with Progressive springs and the rear with a cheapo adjustable kit.

The bike still rides pretty good lowered, a bit stiffer but not bad at all. With some tools, a shop manual, time and patients, you can install both the front and rear lowering kits at home.

Actually, you’ll need a press to install the lowering kit in the rear shocks (you can take rear springs off and bring them to the stealer or an indi shop for this step), but other than that you can do it yourself and save a lot of $$$....I did! Total cost to lower the bike front and rear...about 140 bux (springs, adjuster bolts/nuts, and fork oil).

Thanks for all of the information and suggestions. Looks like the dealer can take care of this before we take delivery of the bike.

Gotta keep the little woman happy!
