Default Oil cap leak?

Cap was on tight, or so I thought. Saw some oil spray when I got home. Took it out, wiped off the rubber gasket, and put it back. Is this common for Harleys?

It does hapen from time to time, the rubber gets worn. Is your tank overfilled? The level cannot be above the "hot" oil level indicator.

either too much oil or defective oil cap. I had a new one leak up the center and would do that

It's brand new and looked like it was just at the full mark, but I'll check it again. I've never owned a new one before, and maybe I'm being too picky.

Also, are the gears stiff when new? Mine seem stiff, especially from 1st to 2nd unless I try and shift real fast.

yep mine that leaked was new. the trans will get better but when you get the chance change the trans fluid to something else. I use Bel Ray and dont have any wine or shift issues.

I cleaned the rubber with acetone...then wrapped about three turns of electrical tape.. Been doing fine ever since. Just make sure it's ALWAYS pushed on straight..and not cocked.
