Default Help with Seat

Just got my Heritage Classic and was wanting to know if the seat was good for distance riding or do I need to replace it and if so what do y'all recommend. I had put a mustang seat my other motorcycle and loved it. I know Im going to have to replace the passenger sent but was wondering if you had some suggestions.

Thanks a bunch!
David

Well i have a 2005 classic and 13,000 miles on the oem seat... depends on how far you are riding and how it sets you now... Mustang seats are great.. wait until you get a few more miles on it and then you will know if you need to change...

Depends a lot on your age and physical condition. 33 years ago I rode 2100 miles in three days on a stock sportster with no problem. Today I need a high dollar aftermarket seat to ride 100 miles.

Hey David,
I have a 05 Heritage with the stock seat and 10,000 miles on it. I have not had any problems. My wife made me change the passenger seat though. She hated the stock seat for long trips. I put the HD Touring Passenger Pillion part #52912-00 I think it looks great and she likes the comfort too. Hope that helps.

Well----I'm not saying it was a joyful trip, just that I could endure a great deal more discomfort then. I didn't even stop for the thunderstorms, and had no windshield or raingear. Took me another two days to recover when I made it to mom's house. BTW, that little sporty never missed a beat.

My seat is getting close to 5k miles on it and is getting softer it seems every day.

Could be my butt getting harder though.

I've not done more than 170 in a day so far, but I did do an 8 hour day at low speeds and came away OK.

I know its not the same seat, but I think they are pretty close.

I have the stock seat on my Standard but I have an engine guard with highway pegs which allow me to change my foot and butt position thus reducing fatigue. Unless I ride over 500 a day, I don't have any problem with my seat.

I rode 7000 miles on a cross country, coast to coast trip on the stock Heritage seat. Upto 700 miles a day. Stock seat was fine.
I was 57 years old at the time.
I recently change to a H-D "Sundowner" seat. Rides even better.
The Mustang seats always raised me up to high.

Default RE: Help with Seat

I just replaced my stock seat on my 05 FB with the Mustang Sport Solos with Driver Backrest & Rear Seat. I have also put Kuryakyn Cruise Arm Mark III's floarboard highway pegs in order to stretch out my legs.

I am now in the middle of swapping out my stock handles with 10" mini-apes. With the stock seat and bars after a two hour ride my shoulders were stiff, the middle of my shoulder blades were straining, my lower back was tight, and my but was getting numb. I am making it sound worse than it really was but I found myself shifting around alot in an attempt to find a comfortable position. Unfortunately I never found one.

Back to the mustang seat. I am really impressed. The riders backrest is extremely comfortable and the seat itself supports me very well. At first I was a little concerned because the seat is slightly smaller than the stock but the comfort improvement is very noticable. If I were to do it all over again, I would get the exact same seat. No buyers remorse here.
