So while I was at the ole Harley shop looking at my bike not yet ready to bring home,, I heard a couple of guys talking about the 09's have a new sprocket with less teeth to bring the rpm up and hit the powerband earlier.
I was curious as Im throwing 204 cams with a 4 deg advance on the new bike already paid for
I did hear that Harley changed the '09's so that 6th gear was more usable than it was.
Not sure exactly what they did, but I'd guess it was change the teeth count on the sprocket.
I like my gear the way it is. after the dyno tune I can cruise in 6th at 60 and low as 55 but I mostly use it at 70 or more. If I lower the gear I would loose the range in 5th and I was told it is like the 5 speeds have. I can take 5th to 70 or 80 with no problem. I did go to a metzler tire on th rear one time and the gearing was perfect.
The torque curve is so wide on these bikes I dont really see a need to get the revs up quicker to make power. Now if they go up a tooth in back it would serve to bring in 6th earlier at the expense of a tiny bit of top end.
Not a bad call as it seems 55 mph is kind of no mans land where 5th is winding up and 6th is lugging.
