Default FXST Seats Compared

Since there are several post about what the best seat is, I thought I would share my experience. Everything listed is my opinion along with some fit problems documented by photos.
Recently I tested out 5 seats. HD Sundowner, Saddleman Profiler, Mustang Daytripper, Mustang Vintage, and Mustang Vintage Wide.
This post is not met to slam any seat just to give everyone a better understanding of the mounted look and comfort.
- Sundowner and Mustang Wide; both are virtually the same in comfort and looks. Both are extremely comfortable for long and short rides.
- Saddleman Profiler, a very sleek looking seat but in my opinion I did not find it any more comfortable than the stock seat. Although it was listed for 06 and above (wide tire and the seat mounting bolt sitting 1 inch further back) I could not get the seat to fit properly being snug against the tank and the bolt hole aliened. See photos.
- Mustang Daytripper, a decent looking seat and much more comfortable than stock. Although it has been reported the seat fits great on 07’s mine hit on the ECM bolts, leaving scratches on the seat pan and making it almost impossible to mount.
- Mustang Vintage (14 inch), out of the 5 seats this is hands down the winner for both looks and comfort, although the wide (17 inch) version is slightly more comfortable I chose the standard vintage based on looks and comfort. I chose the 2 piece option so I can go solo at times. The only downside is the passenger’s section is a real pain to get on; a tab slides into a special washer holding the drivers seat on. Getting the tab to slid all the way forward so the rear bolt is aliened is tough since combined with the front seat it looks like a one piece and the fit is tight.

I am sure there are many other seats but my goal was to stay under $300 and the Corbin Gunfighter listed at $439.
When I confronted Mustang with the Daytripper fit issue they did step up to the plate and requested seat pan pictures thinking it may have been mislabeled. Should have an answer from them Monday.
Since my first concern was looks and second was comfort the Mustang Vintage is going to be the keeper over the Mustang Wide. I am just glad Dennis Kirk has a 90 day return policy and no restocking fees.

Looks vs. function.
There isn't one perfect seat.
