Angry Fuel Gauge Problems...

I am new here so if I am bringing up a old worn out topic.. Sorry...

Anyways I have an 04 Fatboy fuel injected and my fuel gauge is acting up. When the bike is off (ignition ****) the fuel gauge goes to empty. When you turn the bike on it acts like normal (when you have a full tank of gas) and slowly rises to full. The bike is no where full at 165 miles on a tank.

Any of you had this problem? Did you fix it yourself? Any tips or advice?

Thanks,
Geddy

Best advice I can give you is to ignore the fuel gauge and use the odometer. I never trust a fuel gauge on a motorcycle or a boat.

The float arm gets stuck against the tank giving you a false reading. grind it down a bit for clearance.

I consider myself to be some what mechanicaly inclined, so is this something I should attempt or just go ahead and take it into the shop?

I know I shouldn't always go by the gauge but since it is on the bike I would like it to be working properly.

Get yourself a service manual for the bike. It's a simple job but it helps greatly if you have a manual.
