I own a service manual, know what it says, and have done plenty of oil changes before. That's not the information I'm looking for.
Here's my situation. My motorcycle, FXSTC, sits in the underground parking stall beneath my apartment. I want to change the oil. The parking spot places the bike at a decent incline, I'm guessing around 20 degrees, so everything seems to be flowing down to the oil drain plug. I know the service manual says change it on level ground, but is this for safety reasons, rather than draining reasons? I'm not going to spend $30 labor on top of $35 oil and filter to have someone else change my oil at a dealership. So the only option other than do it myself at my apartment is to ride it to a level parking lot, have someone meet me there with my tools, oil pan, and new oil and filter and change it there before someone says "what the $@$$ are you doing here?"
No problem. I've changed my oil in motel parking lots while on the orad many times. Just wait until it gets dark. Haven't had anybody ever raise a single question.
