Default H4 Bulb vs 9003 Bulb

I posted this in electrical and lighting area with no results, was wondering if any of you guys might know? Headlight burned out again. i've been replacing with 9003 bulbs, but it does call for H4 bulbs. Is there actually a difference between the two, they look identical?

H4 is same as 9003, they call it differently in Europe and Asia, that's all.

Make sure you don't use a car bulb they say they will not last very long. I guess there is a motorcycle special bulb. I have a silverstar and hasn't had a problem yet

My Silverstar lasted about 3 months( 08 Fatboy), so I put the stock Harley bulb back in it. Hopefully you will have better luck than me.

The best headlight bulb that I have ever used, which is now on my FXCWC and has been on my 97 Wide Glide for over a year and a half is that phillips MotoVision. It costs more than a regular bulb, and I was very skeptical at first, but it is well worth it. Not only have they lasted forever, but they are way brighter both, from the bike, and to oncoming traffic. I would highly suggest them.

My Silverstar has been in for 5 months and still works, and in the Nightrain the light bounces around a lot due to the mounting, I like the light at least I can see at night with it the stock one s**ks. If this one does go I may just try the Phillips Motovision
