I am taking off the gas tank on my 08 FatBoy and have to take off the instrument panel..the manual is pretty useless here because all it says is remove panel..it doesn"t say anything about all the wires that need to be disconnected..anyway How do you remove the reset switch from the console?? also this seems like a pretty hard thing to do for one person..any hints on making this job easier..
You are probably looking at the wrong part of the manual. If you are looking under tank removal, it ONLY details the tank inself. Getting everything else off is covered by that parts section. In other words, the Console has its own section in the book.
As for the console removal, its a simple 1 person job. Place a CLEAN soft cloth next to the console. Remove the holding nut, flip the console onto its side on top of the cloth, and disconnect the wiring. The reset switch is a simple plastic hand nut under the rubber boot. Simply twist it off by hand. No tools requiered for it.
Very easy and self-explanatory once you loosed the nut and flip it over, but be sure and use a towel to protect your tank from any slips. Don't ask me how I know.
TOWEL like they said, better to have an extra one handy so when the one you laid out slids off you havea spare. There are at least 4 wire conectors, the pain is the ignition switch. Have a small straight slot ready to help get the conectors off.
