Is there any up or down sides to removing the baffles out of my 45 mile old heritage? I would like a little more noise out the back (of course) but don't want to mess anything up. I'm going to call the dealer and ask if it will void anything on my warranty. Thanks
you need baffles of some sort for the back pressure and low end torque. plus, if you just pull them out, yoour bike will run like crap and sound like crap because it will mess up the air fuel mixture. lots of back fires, coughing, sneezing, etc.
if you want more sound, best to go with some new slip ons or get new pipes all together. Prolly need a re-map too.
Kidding, right? Yes, voids warranty! Best results obtained from doing proper stage 1. Adding new parts will not void warranty as long as the parts do not cause a condition which causes failure.
Slip-ons simply sound lame IMO and are not worth the money.
I'm afraid I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with you here. I've got the V&H Straight Shot SO on my Sportster and I think they actually sound deeper (and louder) than my V&H Double Barrel Longs on the Deluxe. I really like their sound and performance.
I bet your dealer says yes it will void the warranty and then try to sell and install you some screamin eagle slip ons. Harley says anything you do will not be covered by warranty. that is not the same as void. it would take a law suit to void a written contract. if you are just wanting to get something to make the bike sound more like a Harley then set slip on rush muffles with 1.75 baffles. most people wait for the 1000 mile checkup as if there is an issue with the bike they get it fixed at that time and the dealer wont give you grief. my dealer has never said anything about my mods because my warranty claims have been unrelated.
Thanks for the advice, I won't be doing anything until after the break-in and first service anyway. What's the difference between the stock mufflers and the other slip-ons out there? Will a remap be needed with just a slipon swapout? Thanks again. chris
EDIT: I see that my picture made the upload...I will get a much better photo when the weather permits, this picture does it no justice.
It wont void the warranty. It wont back fire(trust me I've done it). It'll sound pretty good, but a good set of slip ons will sound better. Like others above, I have the V&H slip ons and they sound every bit as good as most full exhausts. They won't perform as good as a nice 2 into 1 but if you don't have the money for a new complete exhaust, they work and sound rather well.
