Default Chrome frame inserts

I recently purchased a set of chrome inserts that fit in the frame and are attached with double sided tape. One problem both of them fell off on the same side of the exhaust. I cleaned the area with alcohol befor installing them but was wondering if the heat from the exhaust was to much for them. Has anyone had the same problem and was wondering if anyone has any idea to make them stay on other than double sided tape. thanks

(same here) Lost mine on the road within two days of installing them. It appears the tape can't handle the heat.

What was the weather/Temps like when you installed them? When I bought mine, the parts guy told me to do it in the WARM HEATED garage. He said it would help the tape stick better. I haven't put mine on yet so I'm not sure yet.

Mine too. It must be the heat.

One of the inserts as off my bike when I bought it. It's my understanding that the fit of one of the inserts is typically pretty tight and that it needs to be trimmed slightly to keep it from popping out. Of course that's just what I was told by one of the guys at my local Harley dealership. I can't confirm that from personal experience.

Personally, I decided to go with the frame cover instead of the insert in light of the problems with the inserts. Of course, depending on your exhaust setup (i.e. in particular stock Fatboy exhaust), frame covers aren't an option.

The weather was fine when I installed them and I never even rode the bike for a few days after the installation. I did purchase another set of them today from the local HD dealer and they suggested super glue. I'm gonna wait a few days and give it a try unless any better ideas come along. Thanks

mine have been on there for 3 years now, I lost the upper one on the exhaust side once. Use and expoxy type glue, they wont come off then. Just wiping with alchohol probably didn't clean it good enough.

Did you make sure the piece was formed to the space? Did you remove or shave off the plastic heads of the button inserts?
