The heel and toe goes especially good with the X bones. It was different at first, but I soon got used to it. I did unstall the swivel design for use on long stretches of freeway. It's more comfortable to put one's foot back a little to support the back.
I don't like the idea of getting my boot tops all scuffed up. That's the advantagge.
When I bought my Deluxe I didn't think I would like the heel shifter, but got used to it right away and love it. I've got small feet and pretty much just wear Levi's straight legs, so no worry about getting anything caught on it.

I haven't had the pantsleg issue with the heel shifter, but I was uncomfortable with it. I removed mine within days after I bought my FLSTC. Not only was the toe-heel shifter confusing to me, my foot barely fit between them. I went to the dealer and found a cap for the spline, but have since installed an extended Kuryakyn shifter shaft and a different spacer on the spline.
