Default Air Filter Upgrade

I emailed the guys at Nightrider and they said that instead of going with an Arlen Ness Big Sucker or other filter kit to just replace the OEM filter with a K&N with a few 1/2" holes drilled in the plastic of the back of the filter. He said that the holes arent really even necessary for a stage 1 upgrade. Anyone ever tried this? It definitely saves a guy some $$.

Buy my S/E backing plate and k and n filter and crossover vent for your bike. $50. About $200 new for all that stuff. I got pics if you want. It should fit your softail.

The K&N is a better filter, the SE filter seems to not hold up very well.

Do what they said! Great set-up for the $$$. I have the chrome S/E backplate and K & N Filter too. If you are keeping the "football" shaped cover (which I did because I think it looks great), buy the "anti-rotation" kit from Harley to prevent it from turning on the round backplate. I'll go see if I can find you a link.

Okay, here it is:

The se filter and the k and n filter are the same size, but the k and n is far superior. Over time the se filter deteriorates where as the d and n does not. Here is a pic of the setup.
