Can you do me a favor and repost a copy of this in the DIY cheap thread at the top of the section.
I'm trying to collect as many of these 'cheap' mods as possible in there so they don't 'disappear' into that back pages in a week or so.
I never liked to play too much with pipe baffles, and when I did I usually ended up going back to org set up for sound and perf.
Now with EFI and the need for retuning I would rather just get the pipes I like and then leave them alone..
I agree that I also would much rather replace the pipes but I am just looking to do something to hold me over untill the wife will let me spend more money on the Harley.
Ok, I was looking to do this tonight and there is no way I can get anything 1 3/4" down my stock pipes. What do you mean "with the stock baffle all pulled out except the wire mesh"? I have the baffle plates knocked out and thats it.
You have to take a whole saw, that fits just inside the end, and cut the weld. Then you can pull the whole baffle out with a pair of pliers or vise grips. If you do a search you will find directions. Then the other pipe will fit......
Made another set without the holes drilled in them. Very loud as they are basically 1 3/4 drag pipes so I installed a set of cut down HP Plus baffles. The sound is a bit more harsh than with the holes but I do like it better, and it runs great. It's fun to watch the faces of people at the local dealership, when I fire up my bike, and they have a WTF moment. Here's a sound clip.....
