Default Looking 4 a different exhaust.

OK, so I’ve been researching exhaust system options. Currently I have SEII (probably from 2005) slip-ons. All the information I can dig up suggests that these are for racing applications vs street. In either case probably not too CA compliant. However, I don’t really like the sound (too quiet) and the look. I plan on keeping them because I learned here in CA if you get ticketed for excessive noise or modifying your exhaust to can go to a state “referee” testing center. If your exhaust is less than 95 db you get a certificate to present to the court and get out of the ticket. Of course, there is a testing fee. I don’t know how much, but probably less than the ticket. So hang to that “legal” exhaust system.

So back to my issue at hand, I want to keep my current configuration for legal reasons (even though they’re SEIIs I figure they’re quiet enough, plus a dealers in LA put them on so I guess I’m legal enough; also, I’m a TX resident & getting the bike re-titled in TX so there won’t be a law governing any mod I do to the exhaust system). And go with either a slightly less restrictive pipe (like a Rush short style, Sampson Legend Series, or drag pipes w/ power and torque cones) or a 2-1 system. My bike already has kind of a retro look to it, so I was thinking the Road House 2-1 (3rd pic). Anybody have any experience w/ Road House? Or any other ideas, for that matter?

welcome to texas. we do have some cities that will get you for loud pipes. one such city is fredericksberg tx. if a citizen feels your pipes are too lound they can complain and you get a ticket and there is no getting out of it. So when you see the old folks on the bench pointing at you cut the engine and coast. I was going to say get some hooker pipes but i hear they are gone. I had rush slip ons and you can make as loud as you want with choice of baffle sizes.

Thanks for the advice. I hear you about the niose issue as a Texan, but at least we can legally modify our exhausts. I don't know how picky they are here in CA, but with out of state plates and licence I'm hoping that i can push the issue (kind of like if you have really dark window tint the CA cops cant do anything 'cuase your vehicle is legal in the state its registered in). I'm not digging the shotgun exhaust, so I'm thinking about going with Rush shorties maybe in the silver ceramic. I think last time I saw your post you were still working on that tail light. Its cool personal look. Is you rear tire stock size? It looks bigger.

it is a stock rear tire, the relocation of the tag and the tail lamp makes the tire look fatter. The tag kit cost me about $20 and the tail lamp about $12. I also came up with a triple stop lamp using 3 on those without drilling any holes. If you take the stock tag bracket apart and reverse the bottom part it will make a platform that has holes already there for 3 of the tail lamps that I used as the center one with it being toward the rear and the other 2 will be recessed. They will see when you stop and will see you at night. ad a rearalert from ebay for $20 and it will flash 5 times and go steady. The tail lamp is from 86 Harley front turn and I get them used for about $6. I also found a place where you can get the more pointed cone shaped lens for that 56 chevy look. by the way i have the wires now covered in poly cord rope from lowes in the color that matches the paint and the lamp shaft is wrapped in corigated foil from the top of a walgreens peanut can.

Just keep your stock pipes in case you get a ticket. I got one a couple of years ago. I swapped my exhaust out for stock, got it inspected and paid my $10, and got some different exhaust.
