Default How do you separate 'truth' from 'fiction'?

I've been faced with the same dilemma and it seems the hardest thing is to find an ACCURATE source of truthful information. I always wonder when I"m told things like "they say"....who is the SOURCE and if they have anything to 'gain' from saying that. It seems odd that we trust car tires to be fixed one way but have a totally different standard for motorcycle tires when they have an awful lot of similarities. I wish there was an irrefutable source you could turn to when such information is being sought with PROOF and not just a lot of 'hearsay' to back it up. Inquiring minds want to know.

My vote is for....plug the tire, and replace the tube! I've done it before, and have never had a problem. I would only replace the tire If it was fairly worn...but an almost/new tire....No way!

Yep, manual says they are tubed. Almost hoping I was wrong. Gotta ruin your day when you get a flat out in the boonies.

Manual says it's not necessary to completely remove the tire from the rim. "Removing one side allows the tube to be replaced and allows for inspection of the tire".

Well it is a tubed tire and the screw that was in it was right up the middle so they (the dealer) was able to just change the tube and seal the tire from the inside. Only $30 total for parts. Of course...$95 for the 1 hour it took to do the work. But I like those guys over at OC Harley. Their service department is great!

Suppose it's not a bad idea to carry a spare but I'd be more concerned with finding someone to put it on. Doesn't seem like a side of the road job. Although I've read where some have done it.

If it's just a pin hole (as opposed to a blowout) isn't there some sort of air in a can you can buy to get you to the next town? Or would a small battery powered compressor be the way to go.

Anyone ever use fix a flat on a tubed tire that just has a nail hole in it?
