Hey everyone,
I am new to the bike world..I am really close to pullin the trigger on a softail standard. I am just not a big fan of the fact that it doesnt have alot of chrome on the engine..But it is too good of a deal to pass up. my question is, is it a difficult task to install chrome stuff on engines like the tranny, cam cover etc? if i am mechannically inclined, will i be able to handle these tasks, or is it more involved and need a professional to do it? i just dont want to pay the outragous labor fees my local HD dealer charges...thanks,
Jon
if you are a good haggler you could most likely get the chrome you want installed for the price you are going to pay for the bike ... but really isnt black the new chrome anyway
its used and for sale at a car dealship...i don't think they have any chrome for a bike..unless they tear a couple pieces of a lincoln..but being a do it yourselfer for just about anything, it shouldnt be that bad to install stuff like that. say you take the cam cover off..is that just a cover or will **** start spilling out?
Do it yourself!! buy a manual, hopefully you have some tools and get a cycle jack (so you dont have to kneel on the cold garage floor, unless u like that sort of thing lol) if you follow the manual it aint all that hard.as far as the chrome goes, i found my chrome outer primary on fleabay for 60 bucks,it had some very minor blemishes on the bottom where you cant see when its on the bike,a cam cover in 99% shape (50 bucks) and a NEW take off side tranny cover for 40 bucks.so the stuff is out there just look around.i also found Sterling chromite cables(HD clones) alot cheaper on the net. found a pair of chrome hand levers 15 bucks and shipping.i am eyeing a brand new chrome inner primary i just spotted on the net for 150 plus shipping.so the point keep looking and wrench on your bike.you will appreciate and be able to brag to your new HD buddies lol
Just spent the winter doing mods to the bike. Follow the service manual, also use a parts manual (helped me by looking at the exploded view of the parts, and ask questions if in doubt. I found lots of information on this site and also at my local dealer. The service manager and his techs went out of their way to show me and explain. Go for it.
Or yu can b lazy like me and buy it done. A friend once told me that if you get a burst of energy just sit for awhile and it will pass. All Bull aside, go for it.
