by the way here is a little pic of my jap crap.
you can always get a 96 and then get a big bore kit to get it up to 103 or even 110

yeah, i agree that they need to catch up with the times. i know there are alot of guys here that are not into choppers but i got to tell you, that's what's popular now a days. alot of people are looking to ride choppers but they can't afford a 30,000 bike. Harley should look into adding some stretch (up/out) to their frame.

I think the chopper craze is well on it's way out. People (that I know) want a nice comfortable bike that isn't a pain to get serviced and warranty work done. Harley offers that , with their unrivaled dealer network. It's true, their motors aren't as powerful as some of the Jap V-twins, but they are powerful enough.

i think if choppers somehow become affordable then there will be a huge market for them out there. i'm sure Harley can figure out a way to make a production chopper affordable and reliable.

Honda is releasing the Fury for 2010... and the suggested MSRP starts at $13k. It's a chopper style bike.

Very good point above!

I am a 30 year old Harley Davidson owner, and bought mine in 2007. I never thought I would own a Harley, because of the price, not the style. With that being said, after I deployed to Iraq, Harley was the only choice for me. Otherwise, price wise, would never be able to afford one. Recently, I have noticed the prices have been lowered and more appealing.

I have always loved Harley Davidson motorcycles. I cant stand the over chromed motorcycles, or the bright colors that in the past 20 years have been watering down the market.

Now onto my point. Within the past year or so, Harley Davidson has made come great moves onto trying to get the younger generation, my generation more interested in their bikes. Their Dark Custom series is very appealing to the generation who has been watching Jesse James of West Coast Choppers, Orange County Choppers and other great televised events like Biker Build Off. Going back to the old style of bikes, less chrome, less parts, more muscle, I feel HD has been hitting the ball of out of the park with the Night Train, Rocker series, V-Rod and the great looking Cross Bones. This move on their behalf, has caused some of my generation to take Harley into consideration, and I have seen some street bike owners trade up to the newer styled Harley Davidsons. Less is more is what people my age are looking at. Being able to modify and add things at will, and the big old permanent fixtures.

Secondly, their clothing, was a little outdated. The t-shirts are over priced for their quality. Usually around $28.95 for a cheap shirt with some kind of cheesy graphics, after buying a few, I stopped. They actually did a great thing recently, and started the Black Label clothing line. Still over priced for what you are getting, but a better alternative than the older style clothing.

Finally, I believe that the company, has made great moves, and I hope it pays off. The only other item I would like to touch on is the service departments. I have yet to find a good Harley service department, and I and most other rides, opt to either do it themselves, or take it to an independent Harley mechanic for better service.

Article that just came out about Harley. I can see them upgrading the engine in a few years, but i believe the 96 is here to stay for a few years. Usually they have a time line before they implement a part, and what the expected time frame would be to develop and implement a whole new one. I really cant see them changing before 5 years.

that is what I thought for the Rocker series bike, to appeal to Chopper crowd. I love that bike. My three favorite bikes are the Rocker series, Cross Bones and the Night Trains.
