heres the deal
i have a 07 flstsc that back fires on decel that annoys the hell out of me. is there any fix
i have samson drags and stage 1 download with hi flow.
i asked the stealer mechanic if a power commander would solve the problem and he told me it would make it worse. other than changing exhaust is there any other solutions. i can live with it but would like to live without it.
Your "mechanic" just lied to you ....
First, check the torque on the pipe bolts (where the pipes bolt onto the heads) and also where the mufflers bolt onto the pipes. An air leak at either location will cause decell popping..... If you have no leaks and the exhaust O2 sensos are working,( they are still hooked up right?) you shouldn't have any popping at all. A PC3 is a nice unit, but not required for your set up as long as the O2s are working...... if the o2s are plugged out then yes a PC3 will take care of the popping.....If you have an air leak, a PC3 woun't help much.
The stage 1 download is good for slip on pipes and se intake/filter. If you have full pipes the download is not enough. If you have no intake/exhaust leaks upgrade to a PCIII or the HD SEST (Screaming Eagle Super Tuner). There are another efi tuning options, but these are the most common. The HD SEST will set you back $450 plus dyno tune. The PCIII should be less than $300 (Fuel Moto) and you can get a canned map (what I have) that will get you pretty well tuned. As I said I have the PCIII and am very happy with the performance.
When I bought my bike it had the hi flow filter with pipes and the stage 1 download. backfired occasionally on decel. I put on a power commander and tuned the popping right out. It took a bit of time to get it to where it wouldn't pop, but I got it there eventually.
Not to steal the the post but I also have the same prob 09 FXSTC with V&H BBS and the HD Screaming Eagle Super Tuner. I did not have it Dynoed yet because I had the work done before I took it home and they said not to dyno for 1000 mi or so. Should I just wait to have it dynoed or should the fix be on there dime?
Thanks

Although i can't believe they told you not to have it dyno'd for 1,000 miles or so, usually a dyno is an added charge, it doesn't come with the SEST automatically.
