A hot day back in August last year I took my '06 Deluxe for a long ride. On the way home, my throttle starting sticking making the RPMs run high even after letting off the throttle. I pulled over, let the bike cool off and didn't experience the sticking again until another hot, long ride.
Has anyone ever had this happen before? Throttle cable is stock and, since I have owned the bike at least, has never been dismantled.
is the throttle returning? If not it either your cables are in a bind or they need to be lubed. If you do not think they have ever been touched I would lube them regardless.
make sure the thumb wheel throttle lock is backed off all the way. this happened to me once and when i finally figured it out,boy i felt like a dumd azz.
Need to confirm the problem description. You said RPMs were running high even after letting off the throttle. Was the throttle/grip returning to the idle position? I am assuming you are saying it was or you could push it back to idle position but either way the RPMs stayed higher than normal. In short you are saying the problem seemed electrical or computer related vice a mechanical problem like a stuck cable, broken spring, or other.
I have had this occur a couple times before. Once it was during a lot of stop and go hot weather riding. Another time it was in conjunction with a lot of throttle action supporting a very twisty road that required slow speeds around 20-35 mph.
In both cases it seemed as if the ECU was deliberately upping the RPMs to assist with the stopping/starting. It stopped by 1) turning bike off and restarting. <or> 2) Stopping bike and letting it idle for a minute or so. Idle dropped back down to normal.
Bike in question: 2007 Deuce with Stage 1 AC, VH BR exhaust, and DFO tuner.

Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks.

one of our riders has the same. it was a vacume leak. he had the stage 1 air breather and the 2 large vent bolts worked loose and when he let off the throttle it made the rpm go up to about 3000 at idle.
