Default How much oil

do you dudes and dudettes put in your Softail? The owner's manual is kinda vague. After draining out the old oil (and putting the plug back, LOL!) do you fill 'er up to the bottom weld on the oil tank spout or what? Thanks for your help as usual.

My '87 calls for 3 quarts in the specs. I fill the filter up when I change it, then put about 2.5 quarts in the tank, run the engine, and recheck the level in the tank with the bike upright. I usually keep the level a tad low from where 3 quarts shows on the dipstick as I seem to get less blow-by out the breather.

If it's an 88B engine, 2000 or newer, the books calls for 3.5. A little less than that would be good to avoid blow-by.

Bill
