I had a bike a few years ago and I had a full helmet at the time. I’ve since bought my FXSTDI and in doing so I bought a new half helmet. I’ve found that the wind really catches under it and moves it to the back of my head and the strap chokes me to the point the ride isn’t enjoyable. I’ve tightened the strap but with no help. As I rode I pulled down on the strap and I thought if there was a 2’’ by 4’’ pad that slid on the strap that would hold the helmet down better and not choke me. Anything like that? What does everyone else do about this?
what helmet do you have? Makes it easier to give you a few ideas.
One thing, if you have a small visor (those little spoiler visors above the eyes) (not visor as in flip down) on the front of the helmet, remove it, they tend to catch a lot of air underneath.
other idea, get one of those clear (or tinted) flip down visors they stop air from catching in the cut out and pulling on the helmet.
I had a non DOT polo helmet (still have it) and had the same problem. I turned it around backwards and it helped a bit. As stated above visors have a tendency to catch the wind and cause the helmet to pull up and off you head making the strap tighten around your chin.
my helmet used to choke the hell out of me also. i have non-DOT German, all i did was start to wear a hat (backwards) underneath the helmet and it fits perfectly now. it doesn't slide back or choke me anymore.
i do like that Trooper II helmet on that website though.
