does it matter if your handlebars do not run parallel to your fork? i've heard that if you lean them forward it can cause wobbles, is there any truth to this? I've got apes and theyre positioned almost vertically and do not run parallel to my springer, is this bad?
Most everybody i know with apes except me lol have the bars positioned upwards, I have never heard of anybody i know personally having any issues with speed wobbles due to handlebar placement.
yea, some guy in the parking lot was checking out my bike and said someone told him he couldnt position his like mine because it would give him wobbles. didnt know if it was hodge podge but i thought it was worth looking into...
never heard of wobbles due to the apes... i personally think they look horrible pulled back. apes were meant to stand straight up, or at least upwards...
I got the wobles after I installed my apes but it wasnt because of them. It was only emphasised by them. The real casue was the torque on the neck. After reading the service bulletin and retorquing, I have had no trouble at all.
I had a set of Drag specialties 16" Buffalo Bars (1 1/4") on for a while. Wobbled some over 70mph. Switched 'em out for a set from J&P (1") wobble gone.
I didn't switch because of the wobble. I switched because I think the 1" bars are more proportional to the front end of the bike. Both bars are kicked forward because I'm a long armed f*(k*r (35"+ sleeves)
On my Fatboy with stock rake, I have the in a straight line with the forks. Nice clean look. On my chopper with 46 degrees total rake, if i ran them in line with the forks, I would be steering with my armpits. I pushed them forward so they are parallel with my 4 foot tall sissy bar to give it the old classic 60's chopper look. Got square headlights too.
