I just added a 12V cigarette lighter adapter to my Softail Deuce. I plan on using it to power my Garmin.
Anyway, I have the positive to the positive pole on the battery, and I have the other wire hooked up to the ground. I plugged in my portable air compressor, and it works fine. When I plug in my Garmin adapter, I don't get any power to it. I plugged the Garmin adapter into my car, and it works fine (so not the fuse). I thought the weatherproof plug was preventing the garmin's plug from going all the way in. I used a dremel and removed some plastic fromt he socket. Now it fits all the way in, but I still don't get any power to the adapter.
Any suggestions on what else I can try? It's a Garmin NUVI 260 if that matters. The socket appears to work fine, but just not with the one thing I want it to power.
I will check the depth of the cigarette light hole, make sure your plug tip touches the bottom contact when you push it in, other than that I can't see why it doesn't work.
