1991 flstc 1340cc. I just replaced the starter with a new one, everything was fine for about 2 weeks and now its doing the same thing the old starter was doing. It will push the starter plunger out but it wont spin the starter. Perhaps I got a bad starter, but before I go through the return process I want to eliminate the possibility of the battery not giving the starter enough juice. The battery thats in it is an aftermarket battery and is rated at 275 cca. The starter I just bought was a stock aftermarket starter rated at 1.2 kw. I checked through my repair manual and dont see anything for the CCA for my 1340cc engine. Does anyone know if the 275cca is enough to push my starter without problems? or if 275cca is enough for a 1340cc engine. I have the battery on the charger now, to test it out after its fully charged.
Thanks
edit: one thing I did want to add. I rode about 40 miles to have the bike inspected. I dont know if the inspector left the switch on while he was inspecting it or not, but when I went to leave the inspection station is when this new starter started acting up, never had a problem with it before then. I rode another 40 miles home and stopped at a local watering hole and when I came out it started up fine. I actually turned it off and started it again with no problem.
