i have always let the dealer do it due to waranty resons now that my waranty is up i decided to do my self well when i pulled the drain plug only a lil came out ?? i did run the bike for 10 min or so before doing but the only way i got all the oil out is by running the bike and it circulated and drained at the same time i put some fresh oil to keep it going then got it all out am i missing sumthing ??
I'll bet you pulled the wrong plug. Oil drain plug for the engine is on the frame rail on the right side of the bike near the swingarm. Careful putting that other plug back in as you can crack the case if you over tighten. Don't forget the transmission oil and primary oil too...Get a manual.
you u may be right i might have pulled wrong plug then the one i pulled is by timing cover underneth bike hell i hope i dident overtighten it now well i guess if it leaks i did ya i got the manual but its still packed from a move i did im gona go pray early today that i dident over tighten it thanks for the replys
Look on the frame for the engine drain plug. The transmission drain plug is between the shocks, and the primary drain plug is near the back of the primary on the bottom.
i will now i used that old chevy idea i had a drain pug i thought it was atleast on bottom of case looked like pan i wont make that mistake twice lol i guess we do learn from out mistakes
Be VERY careful with that crankcase plug. It is not supposed to be removed. If it was mine, I'd safety wire it, or at least use a thread locker. Didn't you notice that the oil tank was full when you were adding oil?
A Harley oil change never gets all the oil, in particular the 1/2 pint or so that is in the engine. In the Shovelhead days we used to disconnect the return line at the oil tank and catch the return oil until it ran clean. With today's 10 micron filter and synthetic oil really no reason to do that.

correct.... nut is tapered making it easy to crack case if not careful.
