its the round shaft that comes off the side of the strut that the taillight is attached to. the chrome is starting to come off. tried to point arrow to the part but my have to take a closeup. heck i may just have to replace the taillight not sure.

 

Yup can be replaced, that bit that holds the indicator up is a separate part. Looked it up in the parts manual (parts manual is from 2009 so not 100% sure would be same for yours). Just go to the dealer and order a "support, rear lamp mounting (2)" (guess they come in pairs.)

if it is the stand off from the strut to the lamp the local indi has then about $5 each from take off parts

 

thanks. i put a order in for a fender trim for the front fender of my fatty last week. son goes picks it up an low and behold, they sent the all chrome instead of the one with gold wings which is whats on the back fender and they one i told them to order so i didnt open it up. taking back this morn and ill see if i can order the stand offs or gettem of some take offs. thanks again folks.

 

If you can wait until I get home in August I have a couple of them and would be glad to send you one.

That's fine but I added an edit too my response telling you that the ones I have are not the round ones. They are the lager flat ones that come on the later model bikes. I'm not sure it they will work for you but will be glad to send them if you want me too.
