Ok, I drained the oil from the plug under the oil tank at the passenger peg. Problem is there was maybe only 2 1/2 qts came out. Pulled the plug under the engine and only a tiny amount came out. Dipstick read full before doing all of this.
My man. 3.5 may go in but you ain't going to get 3.5 out unless your taking it apart. Lot of it still sitting in their & the filter.

Dipstick read full before doing all of this. I did not drain the primary, at least I dont think so. The one under the engine was on the left of the bike in the center of the crank case. Shouldnt there be more oil in there? The engine was not hot when I did all of this. I figured I would also change the transmission oil since I was at it. I had an Indy tell me to put in 75w/140 back in there. Would it hurt anything to put in lucas 85w/140? I think I am going to put Mobil1 fully synthetic back in the oil tank. I am also guessing that I should fill it up to full, ride it around the block, then check it again to top it off? By the way, draining the oil on this thing is a B!tCh with it sitting so low. LOL.
My 08 Deluxe only holds 3 qts. You never get the full amount out. Replace the filter, clean up the mess and start by putting 2.5 - 2.75 qts back in. Run it for a few minutes to fill the filter and then check the level again. No need to run it around the block. Make sure your checking it with the bike sitting on the stand. I always like to change the oil on my vehicles when the engines hot/warm.
I put a little oil in the filter before I put it back on. I figure it'll help get oil the the motor quicker. Certainly can't hurt.
You're gonna want to run the bike to warm it up before you dump the fluids. I usually open everything up and let it seep overnight to get as much out as possible.
And then there is the scavenger oil change system which allows ALL of the dirty oil to get out of the engine/sump/oil system. I have used this and it does work very well.
A regular oil change will leave 20 to 28 oz of dirty oil in the system. Just my 2 cents.
