Default exhaust without program?

I was wondering if any of you have ever ran aftermarket exhaust without getting a programer right away? I have talked to a couple of shops and they said it should be alright, and that some of the fuel injected models don't need a programer for just exhaust. BUT I hear many of you saying that the new bikes are already too lean right out of the factory and that exhaust would just make it that much worse. I am planning on doing a big sucker along with the exhaust eventually (a few months at the most) and then would do a programer then. I just don't want to have to wait to put my exhaust on which should be here on friday. So what is yall's input?

Thanks,

Oneloudz71

No need for fuel management with just Exhaust. With out FM you may notice some decel pop. Put on yer pipes and check your plugs every couple of hundered miles until you get the AC and tune. If the decel pop pisses you off enough you may want to get some fuel management on it sooner.

Wow, thats great guys! I am really glad I asked.

Zacharia 11, you mentioned checking the plugs every couple hundred miles, I have heard another rider tell me the same thing (he has an 08 NT and he ran only exhaust for a few thousand miles) but what do I check them for? If it is too lean what will the plugs look like?

Best advise their is to google 'Check Motorcycle Spark Plugs'. There are a few sites around that have pictures of plugs in various conditions and what it means if your plugs look like that. You really don't even have to limit just to Motocycle but the information provided there will be the most relevant.

Here is one such site I have recommended in the past.

Keep an eye on the heat......New pipes will most likely cause the bike to run lean and thus hotter than normal....

Plug color should be coco brown. if it has a white color to it, it's too lean.
