Default seatpost/ coil bracket

Just wondering if anyone knows if you could do any damage if you took the seatpost/coil bracket off your bike. I have a 2000 train and the coil bracket just broke the bike looks so much better without it. Just dont want to cause myself a bigger head ache.

I just took it off my 2008 Crossbones. I relocated my coil and didnt need that crappy fake post anymore. I had 2 mounting points - one on bottom (hex bolt) and one bolt under the seat. I did have to loosen the 2 oil bag bolts in order to wiggle it out off the bottom mounting nub. I put a washer on the top bolt to maintain the spacing where the bracket top was mounted. It all tightened up fine. No issues and it looks great. Just finished last weekend - so no pics yet.

Do a search...I've seen something here in the past few months about someone relocating their coil and taking the seat post out for the looks.

Yea I already have mine out and refabed the coil bracket but i want to know if there is any other reason for this post other than coil bracket. My motor is not stock and just wondering if this bracket is for any other type of stability.

I took mine off cut the top half of and cut it 2" under the coil rewelded and put the bracket back on at the bottom and it opened the oil bag up so much. I talked to my buddy and he is a HD tech and he said the purpose of it is just for coil mounting. If you look at the rocker they dont have it at all and there based off the same chassis design, plus if it broke it aint doing much.

+1. I'd like to do that, but my duals are right in the way.

Exile cycles makes a relocation kit that puts the coil near the rear splash guard. The kit seams pretty pricey. I am not sure how I feel about the long spark plug wires. They also route the wires through the rocker boxs, not crazy about that either.

The only purpose of the post is to mount the coil. Take it out and get on your way.
