Hey guys. I got a deal on some WildOne 16" apes from a buddy and I am pickin em up tomorrow from powdercoat. I have never done a handlebar switch but I like to think I am somewhat mechanically inclinded and can handle this with the help of you guys.
Before I get going on this do any of you have any tips, things to make sure I have or dont forget to do? Im gonna do the whole internal wiring and all but I was just looking for some pointers before I get started.
buy a manual.......I've done several bar changes and the going is easier with the manual. It explains removing the wire ends from the plugs with the primary and secondary locks, etc.

Great advice...
Don't cut the wires...
Run the wires before you mount the bars...
and Take your time.....
I agree about buying a manuel. You can do it a couple of different ways. You can either get a wiring harness extension or just cut and splice. It was easier for me to just cut and splice. If you do cut and splice be sure to stagger your cuts so you wont have a big buldge at one spot and take the time and solder your connections and then use heat shrink. I have changed out bars on several different bikes that I have owned and most recently was a set of 16in Carlini 1-1/4" Gangster Apes on my 09 Fatboy. The install is more tedious than difficult.

good luck this forums rocks for tips, advice and help
I just put my tank back on and forgot to run my throttle cables!!!
I dont like dicking with those connectors....I cut , stagger and solder my wires. I double heat shrink em. Little pieces over the cuts, one big piece over that. My bars have been changed 3 times in the past 4 months. If I can settle on a set I really dig?
Honestly the worst part of changing bars for me is the new scratches!!
Thanks for the info guys. I picked them up from powedercoat today and cannot wait to put them on. It will be a week or so as for once there is nice weather and its not rainin so I will wait till it starts up again.
I was thinking of just cutting the wires and soldering them. Why do you guys say to use the harness extensions? Just curious, I might change my mind.
use novello awesome kit, measure wires 1st to see if they'll make it through(handlebars)
without extensions 1st ask me how i know very happy w/ novello kit
