Well, I got about 11K on my 07 Deluxe. Went down to get an inspection sticker, and my buddy told me they are cracking down on pipes and tires with dry rot here in RI.
Never thought about putting my scoot on carpeting during winter months. Had it on rubber pads, but I guess it should be carpeting. Plus, I'm usually working on it on my jack. But, eventually goes bsack on the ground. I guess the cold and calcium from the cement draws out the oils in the tires.
so, now I need a new tire, replacing really a perfectly good threaded tire.
O, well, rather be safe than sorrier rolling down the highway with no front tire....
Just thought I would give anyone who doesn't realize this stuff...So BEWARE..
A while back ABC-TV ran a story on car tires going bad due to shelf-life limits. You can find it at http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=4826897 ... whether it appies to m/c tires I don't know, but heads up in any case.
I have an indy buddy that educated me on tires dry rotting on concrete about 20 years ago. At first, I though it was BS. However, I have carpet down in my garage. My Mustang has tires on it I bought in 1993. They still look like new. Never had a problem with the bike tires, either....Might be some truth to parking on carpet or at least not on bare concrete.
yeah, I think I'm going to buy a lift, the one that just goes under the frame. Don;t know what you call that type, but won;t take up any room in the garage...
wow must be something in the air. i get 15000 on the front but that is less than a year for me. i use metzler on the front and the dunlop on the back and the rear last about 10,000 miles. i have never had dry rot on the bike tires. I had a goldwing that got discolored from acid rain but it was not dry rot
