Why is the heritage not considered a touring model? I know...stupid question, but I'm curious...what makes a touring model?
The frame? And the rear suspention fursur - air adjustable on touring models.

Not being a softail is a beginning.
The touring models your sit on, not in. The frame is different.
They are beefier.

The Heritage actually has the longer wheelbase. On the '09's it is 64.5" vs 63.5" for the Road King Classic. RKC weights a bit more which may help on the highway. I've heard folks who tour on the Heritiage and are happier than a pig in sheit. Whatever floats your boat. For two up, I'd give the tip to the RKC. But it's all subjective.
If you're happy touring on your Heritage, that's all that counts. Like I always say - don't worry about it and screw everyone else.

Because it is a softail. Softails have the shocks hidden under neath, a different frame, a counter balanced motor, and the list goes on and on. Touring models are a completely different animal.

Here's a difference I haven't seen: Buddy (who has a real touring bike) and I were riding the Cabot trail when we stopped for some road construction. Worker comes up to my buddy and asks why his bike is shaking so much and mine isnt.
