So im looking into new bars for my ride..... After reading every post on here it sounds like Wild1 are the best bars........ Heres the question, how big of a pain are they to replace???? Some say replace wires, some say dont. Reading Wild1 website the 514 dont need a cable change..... But when I read on here most post say you do.......
Well, im just asking for all observations...... Thanks
Changed mine on my Fatboy last weekend to 514's with 4 1/2" risers. Cables and wiring was long enough. No issues at all. It took about 3 hours to move the tank back, dissasemble the plugs and do the wiring internal. It was really a simple job.
Did you strip off the heavier black plastic insulation around the stock wires and just run the individually insulated wires through the bars? Or do you use shrink tube or some other thinner protective insulation? I will be changing bars soon and want everything on-hand before I start.
Also, from what I've read I should have new grips on-hand also
I put the Wild 1 WO515 10" mini apes on my '00 Heritage. Had to add about 3" to the wiring and I bought 4" extended cables. The clutch and throtle cables were good but the brake line could have been 2" shorter. I lrft the stock cables on while the braided oned were ordered. It was real close but did work. I left the heavy outer coating on the wires and did not have any problems pulling them through the bars. They are a little wider than stock and I like the feel. Here is a picture the day after I changed the bars. It was before I put the braided extended ones on.
After looking at the options I think I'm going to be going with the WO504 for my 04 Fatboy. Now it's just a matter of convincing my wife. They may have to wait until the next batch of winter projects. The Wild 1 website has some tips on internal wiring. Here's the link http://www.wild1inc.com/techtipswiring.html
Hi.. I put the 504's on my Heritage and added steel braided cables and I absolutley love the bars.. In fact this is the third bike i've put the 504's on! Enjoy 'em
I put 8" risers on my nighttrain.I thought I might have to get new cables but then I discovered about 4" of cale tucked under my tank.Saved a little dough.
