Hi all, I currently have a 2 row oil cooler on my 04 Fatboy, hooked up the 'normal' way via the outlets next to the oil filter....however, the cooler doesn't seem to have made an appreciable difference to the temp according to the thermometer in the oil cap and doesn't seem to get above warm to the touch...I suspect this may be due to an inadequate flow. I was wondering if the would be a problem with re routing the return line to the oil tank to go through the cooler before it enters the tank? This way it should have full pressure and flow and all oil would go through the cooler....thoughts Gentlemen?
Instead of redoing all the lines why not get one of the thermostatically controlled adaptors that fit under the oil filter that's used in the Harley oil cooler kits.
That way you get full flow after the engine oil exceeds 185 degree's and you don't have to reroute the oil line all the way from the rear of the engine around front (to the cooler) and back again (to the tank).
The reason I dislike the idea of doing it your way is that long unprotected lines are an invitation to damage. One rock kicked up the wrong way and you and the bike could wind up getting a hot oil shower.
