Default primary oil comsumption

I have an 05 softail heritage classic......I have to add about 18-25 oz of oil to my primary every 1000 miles is this too much ?

There is no oil consumption in the primary. It has to be leaking somewhere. Your dealer needs to check this out.

That ain't right. Most primaries aren't supposed to be filled much more than that. Like Terry said, have the dealer check it out.

i'm really confused here,,,if there is no oil consumption, why does the owners manual suggest this level be checked monthly?

Agree with above, there should be no oil consumption, there is nothing to consume it. Must be a leak.

because if it develops a leak and runs dry your screwed. Same reason auto makers tell you to check the coolant level.
