It should always retain your program since everytime HD touches your bike they like to disconnect the battery..

Do you have a battery tender? you might be able to bring it back to life..my buddy has an 05 and battery has drained twice and it has been brought to life.
Mine? I kept mine on tender all the time, and didnt even last 2 years, lol...go figure.
