I do all the work on my bike, with the help of my factory service manual. There was nothing difficult about the bar swap. Time consuming, but not hard. I'm overly cautious when handling painted and chromed parts... I spent a day taking the seats, tank and old bars off! I used internally wired bars from Hill Country Customs with prewired switches. The wires are color matched to the factory harness. Fairly simple... if you can turn a wrench and solder wires, shouldn't have any problems!

Default apes

Guys those bikes are sharp..real sharp. But are they comfortable on long trips? I have never ridden one with apes but would love to try, I just have to see what the deal is..they look great. I am still trying to get a comfortable bar on my 08 Heritage ( no luck yet ) maybe even thought of going the beach bar route...but those apes are awesome..so has anyone been on a long ride?

Tim, for me, apes are a lot more comfortable than the stock bars. I've been on several all day rides since swapping bars. I had pushed the factory bars forward a little to get them out of my lap, and I guess that rotated the gribs slightly upward.... hands and fingers would go numb after around 50 miles. The apes let my wrists and arms rest in a more natural position. I haven't had Any numbness in my hands with the apes, and my lower back feels better the day after a long ride. I am 6'5" though, your results my vary.

Totally agree with you...apes are more comfortable. It doesn't seem intuitive. Most folks ask me if my hands go numb etc. but I too have done trips with absolute comfort. My last trip on this bike was 400 + miles one way all interstate and I just layed back on my t-bag that was on the passenger seat and was comfy. I made 2 stops to stretch the old bones. You also get a lot of 'thumbs up' from folks in cars and trucks...

Not a Heritage but basically the same bike:
