Default project: converting a night train --> crossbones

Hello all !

First at all, let me explain that i was not able to buy a crossbones, because i live in argentina and this model is not yet available.

So, i decided to go for the night train, wich of course i like, but don't love.

I felt in love with the crossbones, but after 10 days of therapy, I reach the conclusion that what i really like is the retro look, the old school look.

So, this is my project. I'm gonna post here pics of my current bike.

STAGE 1 (arriving in 2 weeks)

- vance hines big radius black pipes
- touring solo saddle seat (the one that's in the XB)
- rear lowering kit

I would appreciate your help, thoughts, recommendations, tips, etc etc to get the old school look.

PS: please forgive my poor english.

Good luck. A Cross Bones / Night Train hybrid would be a good look. Several other guys here are doing variations of the same. Keep us posted.

IMO, if it was my bike and I wanted it to look like a crossbones I would:
1a) Get a bigger front tire- I would check to see if my triple trees would accommodate
a bigger wheel. If not I would check vulcanworks.net
1b) Get a springer front end w/ bigger front tire- IMO what sets the crossbones apart
from other HD bikes is the springer front end. It also allows you to change
your headlight (which if you look at a lot of old choppers they stick up and
out.)
2) Get rid of that bobtail fender- The only complaint I have about the crossbones is
the rear fender. Check out a Cheesecakes rear fender he is a member on
this site so just look him up on the Members list.
3) Apes- normally pretty high and more curved, depending on what look you want.
4) Black out- you are lucky enough to have one of two HDs that have the black out
engine so you could take it farther and black out your forks (if you are into
that)
5) Do what you want to make it your own- this is probably the most important one.

Again just my opinion... Ride Safe

To me, it's the springer front end and seat that set it apart. I'm sure there's more, but that's the main things that catch my eye.

A Night Train with a springer looks like a Bad Boy (google Harley Bad Boy) which looks cool and old school and, I think, better than a X-bones.

If I was in the market for a bike now I'd be looking at the bones. But, if they brought back the Bad Boy, it would be no contest.

Check out TX Outlaws bike in the night train pictures thread. You'll pick up some good ideas from his beast. Think there's a few other similar also

Just buy a rear fender blank, weld some bung to the swing arm, mount fender to bungs, get a hard tail style solo seat weld hing to back bone throw some spring under the seat and then you achieve that x-bones rear end look.

Welcome to the forum. Your english is better than my Spanish..

I did see on the forum that someone added a Crossbones seat to their Sotail. Then you could get an aftermarket springer front end and be good to go.

Not to sure about big radius for “Old School” look?
Remove reflectors and add pin stripping.
Enjoy the NT, it’s a great bike.
