I was at a dealership anniversery party today and just decided to check and see what it would cost for 18in apes parts and labor and the quoted me almost $1000. Thats not new switch housings or anything just bars cables wiring harness grips and LABOR! If this is the going rate Ill have to figure out how to do it myself because that seems like highway robbery. I am very aware that things are higher at the dealership but thats crazy. Maybe I'm wrong so my question is what did you pay?
That's about right. Get a manual and all the parts and do it yourself. If you are unsure get a buddy to help. Think of all the other good stuff you can get for your bike for that price.
Krome Werks Narrow 12" Apes = $60.00
Powder Coat em' Black = $25.00
Drill em' for internal wires = Freebie!
OEM throttle cables off a fellow members Bones = $20.00
Parker line and fittings to make my own front brake = $30.00
Clutch Cable off said member Bones just in vase I ever convert it back to a hand clutch= $20.00
Install = Freebie. Did it myself
Total cost for installed black mini apes on my train? $135.00
You can do it pretty cheap if your willing to do it yourself.
I liked the package from Hill Country Customs on ebay, it came with all the cables and chrome switches and housings and is just under $700 bones, it's not cheap either but is a nice upgrade.
Hell the MoCo wants that just for the chrome switch covers.
It's an easy install, just get a shop manual and a Saturday afternoon and do it at home.
Hill Country....that's the place I was thinking of.
