Default 2006 Heartland Kit

Hello all,

I am currently doing a tour at Kunsan, South Korea and as a present to myself I ordered a 2006 Standard. The bike is going to serve as a father/son project for me and the boy, so I am always looking for ideas. I have looked at Heartland USA kits for softails and thought they were really nice looking but they were offering 180 & 250 convertions, I wanted the look but with the 200 the bike comes with. I went to the BX and bought the July issue of American Iron and on page 251 I see an ad from Heartland. It is for the '06 softails using the 200 tire. A direct bolt on with no frame cutting required, it even says you can do the convertion without removing the rear tire. Have any of you guys seen this kit for the 200 tire or have you guys heard any negative things about Heartland? I have heard good things and the bike that Fatboy2five0 put together looks awesome. Oh one more thing, wish my bike a happy birthday on Wednesday 7 June 06 as that is the assembly date (I made sure it wasn't a Monday or Friday bike). I'll beheading to Anchorage Alaska in August and will pick up the bike there.... lots of customizing time in the heated garage LOL. Thanks for any info on this and thanks for the info you guys share here.... I have learned alot and have got alot of ideas because of forum.

I love the way the heartland kit looks. But I'm not paying $700.00+ for fender struts, I don't care what they're made of.And while your there, knock off some Jinro Soju for me.I left the Z in 89'.

Kunsan does have it's fun moments.....and soju is a big part of it. I had a bit too much this weekend so I think I will stay away from it for a week or so. But then again I can mix it with something else and it will seem different.... I hope the kit is a better deal than buying the parts individually. The Heartland web site hasn't changed in a long time and doesn't mention the '06 kit. I would call but it is 15 hours difference from here and would cost a fortune. I will have the wife to call for me (she needs to earn her keep) to find out. Do you guys know of another kit that will get the same look? I would like to check it out. I have done searches but I can't find a kit. Maybe I can figure it out without a kit. I would like to do this with out cutting anything from the frame.

P.S.:
Honey the "Earn her keep" crack was just me trying to act tuff in front of the guys. My beautiful, caring, and GIVING wife can I take a little more cash out for some goodies for my new toy?

I bought my bike in January, so I'm not posing to be an old pro.
But I like the look of the fat tire also. Here's a website that I bookmarked: http://www.dmcustoms.net/widetire/wi...kits.asp?cat=2

Hey Rodder, if you stay with a 200 you should be able to do it.A 250 you'll probably have to cut the fender struts off.I think it'll be too wide.I have'nt taken a good look at the 06's though.I will tell you this, I was out riding with a guy who has an 06' springer and it looks great from behind with the 200.I don't think I'd go any bigger. When I was researching how to put a 180 on my 02' a lot of guys told me not to go any bigger than the 200.I heard the handling went downhill fast from there.I know a lot of guys go with the bigger tire ,230 -300 or whatever they're making now, hell I saw a 360 and it looked utterly ridiculous.Afriend of mine put the PM Phattail kit on his Duece and laid it down right away.He said it handled like a tank. Then again, I've heard others that said it was easy to get used to.I can tell you I rode a Big Dog chopper with a 250 on it.It was great in a straight line, but I needed a parking lot to turn the damn thing around.I say stick with the 200, it looks killer and probably handles better, and most importantly, probably a lot cheaper.

Thanks Kid, I saved the link to my favorites. Jim, I have also heard the handling goes away after 200. I like the look of the 200 and I saw the add by Heartland and it seems like the way I want to go (Depends on price of course). I am looking at everything I can find to get that look, DM Customs looks good too. I have time to look around and when I get out of Korea I can look at different bikes and talk to people for more ideas.

Yes it does have the 200. The Heartland kit is made for the 06 with the 200. The kit should be alot less expensive since it doesn't need a new swing arm, rear wheel and whatever else. The ad I saw in American Iron says it is a direct bolt on install. It also says you can install everything without removing the rear tire and there is no cutting on the frame. I was curious if there were any negative things about Heartland or not. From what I have read and the pics I have seen, the Heartland kits seem very good. My son and I are going to try to do as much as possible ourselves. I even said he could design the flames for it but a professional will have to paint them on. He has a real interest in bikes and I am going to support his interest as much as I can..... I think it will be fun. I am wanting a good kit for this project. We may have fun and learn more by putting together our own kit. Deuce Dude that is an awesome looking bike you have there.... the wheels really set it off.
