I just rode a Fatboy low at demo days last friday. Nice bike, salesman told me it 3/10th of a inch lower than the deluxe. I liked it alot better than the deluxe. Its a little to low for me. I like the reg fatboy better but whoever told you a softail rides bad is wrong. Maybe not a plush as a touring bike but I"ll take the FL front end anyday over the FX frontend. Way more stable feeling going down the road, my opinion. Nothing wrong with a Dyna but its no softail. Plus a softail is the classic Harley look.
The softail is "softer" then a Dyna. If you are all about performance get the Dyna but if you want comfort get a softail. Also the CG should be a little lower on a Deluxe or Fatboy lo then a Dyna Custom.
In reality you need to take your wife to the dealer and let her sit on them all and find what fits and calls out to her. If she has short legs go Softail. I know someone that went Dyna and after having it lowered its still not low enough. He wishes he bought a Softail.
For me I got a Deluxe and have no regrets. I have short legs and the bike feels like it was made just for me. It also fits my wife perfect. I love it.
I bought the 2010 FatBoy Lo at the end of July and went from a Sportster to a Dyna to the FatBoy.
I am glad your wife is loving it.
It rides really great.
I had it two weeks and had to bring it in for its 1,000 mile tune up.
I am still grinning too.

Don't cut corners here. The Fatboy is way more bike than a dyna, in just about every respect. My wife had a sporty and test rode a low rider after riding my bike. She thought it was a marginal step above her bike, but several steps below mine. So she ended up with her own fatboy and couldn't be happier. The low COG is definitely a plus for shorter people and/or the ladies. But as mentioned above, the ride is just so much better. She won't be disappointed. But don't take our word for it, have her ride one.
i just so the fatboy lo today it was vivid black not bad looking......sits really nice i am 5/7 it fit me preety good..one thing not much chrome on the bike. my 2009 lowrider had tons of chrome on it...........i made them a offer see what happens. i know one thing those slip on mufflers are going lol....the bike sounds like a sewing machine lol................i had the rush slip on mufflers my lowrider sounded like a harley ***
