Recently acquired a 2003 fatboy. Love the looks of the stock seat but after about 100 miles it becomes so painful I can hardley sit.
Question. Will a stock heritage seat fit and will it solve the problem. Any other suggestions will be helpfull. I weigh about 200 lbs.
I just replaced the stock seat on my '05 Fat Boy (for the same reason you mentioned) with a Mustang Sport Solo with driver back rest. (part number 79278) Very nice fit and finish on the seat. It pushes you up much closer to the front of the bike, which I wasn't expecting. In the little bit I've ridden with it so far, I can tell I really like the back support. I'm sure it will be very conducive to long rides.
After three hours on my stock Fattie seat the ride stops being fun and starts becoming an ordeal. I like the solo option of the stock seat but I really like the idea of a backrest and more comfort in the seat. Does Mustang or Corbin make a seat that can solo and also accommodate a passenger seat? And do any of the seats look like they belong on a Fattie?

I had the same problem, but I went with the stock Softail Deluxe seat. I like it a hell of a lot better. It mounts different than the FB seat so I needed to buy the extra hardware.
I have the 05 deluxe and I find that seat to be a great looking seat but very uncomfortable after 2-3 hours in the saddle. It has very little padding which is why the deluxe is so low to the ground. Seat height to ground is 24.5 inches, I think the lowest of any stock bike.
Older riders will have more trouble than the younger folks when it comes to touring comfort. I believe the only option for a seat change for the deluxe is the new "sundowner" seat sold through Harley for $325 or the corbon seat, see their website. Others will fit but you will have to remove the stock luggage rack as someone has already pointed out. Mustang seats told me via e-mail that I would have to remove the luggage rack. Since my wife and I take trips and use that rack for our tour pack that is not an option for us.
You can of course go to the tour pak and the rack that goes with that but you better get a second job to afford the cost of the new rack and the tourpak. Like $800 or some nutty Harley price!
