Default New Softail Standard, 1st HD - now with pics

I picked up my 2006 Softail Standard EFI last Thursday before the dealer was finished installing all my chosen accessories I was not comfortable installing myself. They put on my V&H Big shot staggards and the Air Cleaner but did NOT do the SERT and dyno. They didn't have time before I showed up to pick up my bike. They told me it would be fine and that since I was going to be out of town this week on business, I could bring it back after putting some break in miles on it before they tune it and dyno it. I put about 200 miles on it over that weekend and it is there now. I live in downtown Milwaukee and while I love the sound of the Big Shots, I don't love the volume...I have requested they put on baffles while it is there this week.

Enough background...my questions is: I know the bike was running lean as I was getting popping while off the gas, but is there long term damage that was done with this set-up? Like I said, the dealer told me I'd be fine and that it would actually be better to get some break in miles on before the dyno...but I didn't like the way it was running all weekend and I'm a bit concerned.

Anyway, I greatly appreciate the feedback and I look forward to spending lots of time on this board. Once I get a picture of the bike, I will post it.

I know your feeling. It killed me to get 1000 miles on mine before I did the pipes and air. The sound sucked.
Yes it was running lean but unless you really beat on it you didn't hurt it.
Have fun.
You'll have fun with the SERT trust me.

I love the look of the softail standard--pics please!

I doubt whether you did any damage. I ran about 3 tanks of 87 octane in mine before I REMEMBERED that it takes high octane. (Gettin' older!) A few tanks of 93 really made a difference in the performance AND sound.

Now, my V&H straightshots have popped and growled on deceleration from the onset. They did it even more when I got it back from the 1,500 mile checkup, and are doing it even MORE as I put the miles on. The sound doesn't bother me--I kinda like it. But, does it mean that something's out of whack with my mapping? The exhaust pipe is a good gold under the heat shield.

By the way, for others reading this post, the V&H straightshots are some LOUD pipes (I did not want to buy the optional baffles). If you're wantin' low and mellow, these aint it! If you're wantin' loud pipes that clap like thunder when you accelerate (more than growl), here you go. These pipes make my bike WANT to go fast, and my riding style changes with it, for better or worse.

Here is a picture of my bike the night I brought it home. As I described in my first post, I didn't have everything installed that night and it looks better now. I will, of course, post updated pictures when I get them.

Your Bike Looks Awesome as it is, but I know...I've done some mods since my last picture was taken, and many more to go.

Have you seen the inspiration pic at HD?

Nice bike. Looks almost just like mine. I have 06' Standard with V&H Shortshots, SE Stage 1, and others. I was thinking about that same back rack on mine. How sturdy is it? These bikes just keep looking better.

Nice ride, I really like the big tire on the back.........so what are you going to change on it next? My seat and handle bars swap made my standard a whole nother bike.
