There ain't nothing more bare bones than a seat on an expensive racing bike.
I hear ya' there. My 08' KTM 300 off-road bike has a seat that is pure punishment. Almost like the Austrian design team was told to build a torture model!

So I bought the tall race team seat with gel.....

Its just as bad. If not worse due to the more aggressive shape and gripper cover.

I bought the Gel model Le Pera as well. My bike is an 05' so the gel and the regualr seat look the same. I dont have that little cushy bonus back portion that the later model 200MM bikes get. Needless to say the gel is a waste of dough. I cant feel any gel. Everytime I take the seat off I check the sticker on the bottom to verify that is really is the gel model!!!

The older bike Bare Boneses look different though....

What material LePera are you getting? All leather or partial vinyl? Any tips/advice on which material to go with? Stitching? Barebones vs. Silhouette? Deluxe version?

I've already decided to go no gel, I also ride a race cycle so I know what punishing seats are like!

I'm all for the bare bones. My bike just looked dopey with the stock seat, but with the bare bones it looks slick as hell. I actually found the seat to be way more comfortable than my stock seat. I'll admit that the seat killed me on the first couple of long trips I took with it but, it seems to only have gotten better since then. Either the seat needs to be broken in or I'm being broken in. Anyways, I would never trade it in for anything.

As stated before, your 08 doesn't mount that way. You should of got the one that mounts to the mounting hole on the fender. If you remove the stock seat, you will see another hole with a nice little plastic plug, with the HD bar and shield on it. You take the plug out, buy another bung for the screw, and install. If you ordered the one with the two tabs, you will be sadly disappointed. I had a LePera on my 08. It was alright I guess. I sold it and got the Saddlemen Tattoo leather seat, with biker gel. Mucho better seat and still looks fine to me. Either way, good luck man!!

You can see in this picture how the seat should mount on our 08 models. See the mounting tab on the rear of the seat?

10-4 thanks for the info. I ordered one for the 08 with 200 rear tire so I assume I am getting the correct seat. I checked and my fender has the plugs that you speak of. I bought a HD sundowner about a year ago and was provided some seat hardware as well. Remember the parts guy saying to keep that stuff that it might come in handy! So in other words I think I have the stuff for the seat install. Will post pics when I get it done...
