Default self exhaust

As far as putting exhaust on yourself. Are there any special tools necessary to do this work yourself. Is it a simple task of unscrewing the old exhaust, and exhaust bracket and slipping the new ones on.

On the end of your pipes towards the exhaust port there is a spring-type c-clamp. It holds your flange on the pipe itself. A spreader for that little baby wouldn't hurt. Made my life easier to be sure. Under five bucks at Harbor Freight Tools store. I didn't think I could it myself but I really could. Good Luck,

Just swapped exhausts on my Deluxe last weekend. I had to move the passenger pegs since they were on brackets that come off. For those I had to use a small snap ring tool. There were a few bolts I had to remove with a torx head socket so you might run into those. #50 torx, I think. You'll definitely need a 6" extension or longer for your ratchet just to get to two of those 4 header nuts - they're ½" btw. Also, I don't know what pipes you're putting on, but you'll probably need to reuse the flanges, ring holders (V&H calls them circlips), and head gaskets. So don't rip off the stock gaskets unless you're sure you got new ones. We used a large snap ring tool to spread the ring holders over the lip of the old pipes to remove and over the lip of the new ones to install. And you'll probably want to use loc-tite on the bolts so they don't vibrate out.

I think that was all the surprises. Oh yeah... also, it's a good idea to have a second set of hands to keep those heavy pipes from hitting the bike or the ground. I pulled the stock pipes on my Sporty when I installed forward controls and they were much heavier than I expected.
