Ill try this in bullett format, so it doesent get too wordy...
-2002 carburated night train. 8000 miles. Stock motor, air cleaner and carb.
-changed oil yesterday, and filled up with new gas.
-ridden almost daily since ive had it for 3 months. no problems.
-rode for 30 miles yesterday, no problems.
-changed oil when it was still warm from that ride. No problems, Ive done it many times. I did accidentally bump the started for a sec while the oil was out. only for a sec.
-started bike after oilchange to check leaks, and it started FINE.
-ran fine (with choke pulled out) for about 30 seconds, and died.
- Started one more time, but ran for only like 3 secs, died.
-doesent start now. starter engages, cranks pistons, but doesent fire.
-pulled plugs, little fouled, so decided to go get new ones anyway. still wont start
-pulled plugs, verified that im getting spark. spark is good.
- plugs smelled like gas (only a little) and were not wet, so i assume its getting gas to the pistons.
-pulled air cleaner off, twisted throttle, and can see that the accelerator jet shoots gas into carb, and butterfly opens, so carb is getting fuel.
Bike doesent even THINK of firing. Im frusterated because i cant seem to get any farther.
Read about a guy with a roadking, had a bad crankshaft position sensor. possible? im lost bros...
You said you filled up with NEW gas. What exactly do you mean? Could you have put a load of bad gas in the tank or a load of diesel by accident?
If you have spark, air and fuel it should run.
Give it a shot of starting ether. Don't do more than just a quick shot. It should try to run for a couple of seconds at least. If it will try to run and it sputters on ether then you have a gasoline problem. Could you have gotten old gas?
Just mean that I filled er up. Was at about a quarter tank and topped her off on the way home from work. Could be "bad" gas, But i would think it would run atleast a little. maybe pooly even, but it wont fire at all. Im going to try some starting fluid and see if its a fuel starvation issue. ill post after I run to walmart
Is the crank position sensor down by the oil filter like on the fatboy? I've heard they break easy while removing the filter. 2002 FLSTC had exact same thing after oil change. It was the sensor, it looked fine but was bad.
There is a sensor down there, gotta do some research and see if thats it.
It did crank when i hit it with some starting fluid (for a sec,) so it feels like it could be a fuel problem somehow.
