'02 still has the Timken as well, and you can get them with the Delphi fuel injection.
Better yet you can get an '02 with a carb. No hassles with "tuning" and "retuning the F.I. everytime you change something. I have an '02 and kept it even though I bought a Streetglide new a couple of years ago. The '00-02's were the best twin cams. The only real improvement is the oil pump and cam drive system in '07 and later. They cheapened up the low end in '03 and later models. Put gear drive cams in a carbed 00-02 Fatboy and you'll ride many many trouble free miles.
I dunno man, I've been spoiled by the fuel injection. The carbed bike do sound better, but I like that I can start the bike and immediately ride away without screwing with the enrichener.

YEAH i know dude, its a pretty TOUGH JOB PULLING out the choke and PUSHING it BACK IN!!! AGREE WITH YOU ON THE 2002 MODEL, LAST YEAR OF THE TIMKEN BOTTOM END, BUT I DO BELIEVE THERES A LOT OF FEAR MONGERING ON THAT ISSUE ALSO!!! I ride my bike hard, with NO SYMPATHY!!! If it GRENADES, i'll take care of it at that time but not until then!!!

Dude we willl all give you great advise, but you will know when you see that right fatboy what ever the year is you will walk in to the dealer or see it on the net for sale, the hairs will start to rise on the back of your neck and then nothing is going to stop you from buying that bike happy hunting

This is exactly right.
FYI I just bought an 02 with tons of chrome and mods with 9K miles for $10k.
I think 00-03 is the sweet spot for used bikes.
Good luck and have fun looking.
FI is the way to go IMHO
You may find some great deals this time of year as winter is around the corner. If your open to other models, that'll expand the buying field. I was open to a few but wanted 07 and newer. I found my 07 FXSTC w/ 13k miles, V&H 2-2's, stage 1, HD alarm, HD bags, cover, a few other goodies, plus 2 months left on HD warranty for 10k. The only downside was it needed a serious bath. Good luck in your search!
Jim
I DISAGREE with all these guys...i say buy NEW or atleast close to it. It only takes time to buy parts. And also comes with a 96" also 6 speed. Resale will be better down the line. Im not a Fatboy fan at all. But if i were to get one i would buy a brand spanken NEW Fat-Lo
