Default Checking belt tension on a Deuce

As far as I can tell the only way to check the belt tension on my 04 Deuce is to remove the rear wheel so that I can remove the upper belt guard and then reinstall the wheel and check the tension. Of course I then have remove the wheel to reinstall the belt guard. I'm starting to think the meds are getting to me.

Can't do the bottom strand, frame is in the way. If I do it guard in place I can't see the belt to measure the movement. Can't remove the belt guard because the Tee nut will not clear the sprocket. This is driving me nuts.

on my 05 Deuce, there is a gap between the frame and the belt guard. plenty of room to see the belt tension...at least on mine.
